Ideas
For Fishing Boat Options
This time of year, some anglers are looking for new boats while other anglers are looking for new accessories for their current boats. Some accessories are big, some aren't so big. Here are some accessory ideas.
The two most popular types of trailers are bunk trailers and roller trailers. With bunk trailers, the boat simply rests on several carpeted bunks. These bunks provide great support for the boat. They are easy to load and unload provided there is enough water to float the boat off the trailer.
Roller trailers, when adjusted properly, load and unload very easily even with minimal water at the boat ramp. In fact, you will probably be able to push the boat off by hand. Roller trailers are the choice of anglers who launch at unimproved landings frequently.
Low horsepower gas engines are becoming more and more popular with anglers who troll. Many walleye boats are outfitted every year with eight to fifteen horsepower "kicker" motors. The big deal now is the new four stroke kickers. Honda Marine is the leader in four-stroke technology. These babies are amazing. They are so quiet you can hardly hear them running, there is no smoke from the motor, they troll down as slow as you might want to go, and gas consumption is very, very low, up to eighty percent less than two stroke motors in some cases.
Other accessories you may want to consider are numerous. Many anglers have started using drift socks. These are simply a bag-like device that you put over the side of your boat to slow the drift, keep the boat drifting straight, or keep the bow of the boat from lifting too high in windy conditions. They fold up and store in a very small area.
Rod holders are must-have items for many anglers, especially those who fish in areas that allow anglers to use multiple lines. The ability to run multiple rods is a big advantage for anglers, but you need to have rod holders to put the additional rods in. You will probably want a couple of rod holders for each side of the boat.
On-board battery chargers are great. I wouldn't want to be without one in my boat. At the end of the day you simply plug the charger into power. That's all there is to it. The charger puts the proper amount of charge into the battery. The next day, unplug the charger and you're ready to go. Great accessory.
There are other items that are handy, helpful accessories. Some anglers consider sonar equipment and GPS to be accessories, others think of them as necessities. Anglers know that there is always something that we can add to the boat, and right now is about the best time to be looking at all the stuff available to make our time on the water more enjoyable and more productive.
