AN
ANGLER’S CHRISTMAS WISH LIST by
Bob Jensen
It’s time to go Christmas
shopping, and anyone who is going to buy Christmas gifts appreciates a
little help in the form of gift ideas. Following are some gift ideas that
will appeal to all but the angler who has absolutely everything.
Most anglers don’t yet have one of the
new Center Drag reels from Abu Garcia. That’s because they are brand new
this Christmas. The Center Drag reel incorporates new technology that allows
for a convenient, smoother and more reliable drag system. It’s a really
nice reel, and very affordable when compared to other top-of-the line reels.
If your angler would appreciate the best
fishing rod available, a Fenwick Techna AV is it. This rod is tough, sensitive,
and lightweight. They are an absolute pleasure to fish with. In fact, any
Fenwick rod would look great under the Christmas tree.
For the ice-angler, a selection of the
new Buck-Shot Rattle Spoons from Northland Tackle will be appreciated.
They are available in three sizes for everything from perch to walleyes
to lake trout. These baits look great and catch fish even better. The rattling
feature is a proven fish-fooler and is new to spoons.
The ice-angler, snowmobiler, or any outdoors-person
in the Midwest will enjoy a set of Extremes outerwear from Carhartt. Carhartt
clothing is very popular with people who spend a lot of time outdoors.
That’s because Carhartt is simply "good stuff". The Extremes outerwear
repels water and will keep anyone comfortable in the most extreme conditions.
Too many anglers and boaters have old,
unsafe life-jackets that remain in dry storage throughout the year. They
should have a life-jacket that is comfortable and that will be worn. Stearn’s
makes a complete line of life-jackets that are comfortable and provide
the safety that is necessary. The favorite of many anglers and boaters
is the Competitor Series Vest from Stearn’s.
If your angler has been especially good
this year, you might want to look into an Aqua-Vu underwater viewing system.
Aqua-Vu is the best of the underwater camera systems. They are very easy
to use, and really open up the underwater world. It is extremely easy to
become absorbed in what is going on under the water. I’ve found myself
several times completely forgetting about the fishing and just watching
the fish. These things really are amazing.
A spool of FireLine, a new Frenzy Minnow
or two, a selection of Rainbow Spinners or Fire-Ball jigs, these will all
make nice stocking stuffers. A subscription or renewal to the In-Fisherman
magazine is always welcomed also. The most important thing is to enjoy
the Holiday Season with family and friends. Remember how fortunate we are
to live in a place where we can think about things like fishing and the
outdoors and not somewhere where Christmas is just another day of attempted
survival. Merry Christmas!!
